"love me" vegan-banana-blueberry-walnut-bread.

So I became a full fledged vegan sometime in October, 2009 and I now consider this to be a huge part of my identity. I think about and prepare food like never before, it's nice to think before you shove something in your mouth. Although I do like animals, I chose to be vegan based on what I put in my body and how it makes me feel. Turns out dairy makes me feel yucky and I don't have no time for that shit. Around my house we are always finding ways to cook our favorites and try new foods without animal products, so I share with you a great banana bread recipe:
3 large bananas so ripe, they are brown
2 TBS fresh lemon juice
1/3 cup rice milk
1/2 cup agave nectar
2 cups flour(use whatever- wheat, rice, wheat. Should be edible either way)
3/4 TSP baking powder
3/4 TSP baking soda
1/2 TSP salt
3/4 cup blueberries
1/2 cup walnuts
a lil bit: cinnamon and vanilla extract
Oven 350F. Spray loaf pan.
Mix rice milk and 1 TBS lemon juice. Let stand until it curdles.

In bowl mash bananas and add remaining lemon juice, rice milk(w/lemon), and agave.
In another bowl add all dry ingredients.
Add the dry ingredients to the wet and stir in blueberries and walnuts.
bake for about an hour.
HOLLER.

The Glitter Box

I made a film last semester called The Glitter Box. It is an extension of a photo series of mine called When Time Stands Still . It stars my nieces Dominique and Jaida Washington who both are always patient with me and my sometimes strange ideas.

Just Kids

Oh how I have been dying to read this book! I bought it but I don't have the time to read it. I got a few pages deep and then homework took over.
A few years ago I was studying Polaroid photographers when I first discovered that I loved making them. This led me to Robert Mapplethorpe, who in turn led me to Patti Smith- two gifts at once! I thought my love was for Robert as he is the photographer in this weird couple and an amazing one at that- but it's Patti. Just look at her, her expression, her clothes and the way she is standing. Of course she was Mapplethorpe's inspiration and muse.

Medium Format FILM!

On a totally different note- I am taking a class with Ahndraya Parlato, who is an amazing photographer. What a score to have professors that are working artists! Check her work out pleasehttp://ahndrayaparlato.com/ and thank you. I have a critique tomorrow and I am planning on showing this work:

Nydia, shut the fuck up!

This might be the longest week of my life, or so it feels like it and it's not even over. This semester I am taking a course that focuses on studio lighting, which is not one of my strong points. I took this class as a challenge and that is has been. Not only in terms of the technical information, but more concerning confidence. Going into this class I already had in in my head that I was going to be bad at it, although the point is that I want to learn and grow, but who wants to be BAD at something? (not bad meaning good but bad meaning bad) This is turn has lead me to develop a negative attitude, which leads to me complaining and that shit ain't cute at all. Moral of this story is: Nydia, shut the fuck up! It is not the end of the world if you are not great at something, you are learning and what matters most is that you truly tried your BEST (as Ricardo reminded me). So here are a couple shots:

we all do the neutron dance.

So this blog is named after the infamous song by The Pointer Sisters. Which goes a little something like this:

I don't want to take it anymore
I'll just stay here locked behind the door
Just no time to stop and get away
'Cause I work so hard to make it everyday

Whoo oooh
Whoo oooh

There's no money falling from the sky
'Cause a man took my heart and robbed me blind
Someone stole my brand new Chevrolet
And the rent is due, I got no place to stay

Whoo oooh
Whoo oooh

(chorus)
And it's hard to say
Just how some things never change
And it's hard to find
Any strength to draw the line
I'm just burning doin' the neutron dance
I'm just burning doin' the neutron dance

Industry don't pay a price that's fair
All the common people breathing filthy air
Roof caved in on all the simple dreams
And to get ahead your heart starts pumping schemes

(chorus)

Whoo oooh
Whoo oooh
I'm on fire
I'm on fire

(chorus)

I know there's a pot of gold for me
All I got to do is just believe
I'm so happy doin' the neutron dance
And I'm just burning doin' the neutron dance
I'm so happy doin' the neutron dance
I'm just burning doin' the neutron dance

A little Alanis Morissette, isn't it ironic-don't cha think. Not only am I obsessed with The Pointer Sisters Pandora station, I think they are fashion icons. Straight 70' and 80's at it's best. INDULGE.

"A portrait is not a likeness. The moment an emotion or fact is transformed into a photograph it is no longer a fact but an opinion. There is no such thing as inaccuracy in a photograph. All photographs are accurate. None of them is the truth." -Richard Avedon
TaDa! I done did it. I started a blog. Let the fuckery begin, or blogetry as I like to call it. I have been thinking about what it means to have a blog, does it mean that I am totally wrapped up in myself and assume that YOU would like to be as well? Naw, not really though. But I have some things in my head that I would like to get out. I will post work of mine-photographs that are Polaroids, medium format film, and digital. I will woo you my personal inspiration as it comes to me and I might even keep writing.
