Good-bye Summer!

I am so ready to say good-bye to Summer! I am ready to wear tights, boots and my beloved army jacket. The cooler weather can't come soon enough as far as I'm concerned. I have been thinking about clothes lately and how when classes begin my outfits become so studious all of a sudden. ha! I have some dresses that transfer into fall nicely and the gold sequin backpack is on my wish list!

OMG! (did I just type that?)

WORDS cannot express the excitement that has taken over my body! We just wrapped two amazing photoshoots for "project editorial", which is a collaboration between Autumn Newell, Amber Boyd and myself. Thanks to Deana, Zia, Shaia, Darrien, Jamimah, and Samantha as our models we have made some amazing photographs(thank you guys ssssoooo much)!!!!. Autumn styled to perfection, while Amber had hair and make-up on point and I clicked away. Here is the tiniest sneak peak, I couldn't resist! You have NO idea what more is to come!

XXXO XXXO

I'm loving M_I_A's new video for the song XXXO! Immediately it reminded me to two things- the nail advertisements I have seen in Asian nail salons and tacky myspace layouts. But seriously who doesn't like unicorns, diamonds, roses and leopards in a fantasy setting. While being fun playful she seems to be once again speaking to her frustration with the interwebs as the chorus chimes "you want me be somebody who I'm really not".

Here are some images along the same line that DO IT for me!

The Runaways

They were just badass..and come on, at 15 years old! I just watched this film the other night and have to say I thought it was good. I just love seeing all the vintage clothes and props when an past era is brought to life on film.

BLACK & GOLD

I found this photograph of M_I_A the other day when checking out blogs. It is a still from her new video for her song XXXO, which I don't believe is released yet. My favorite combination EVER is black and gold, a way of life, I rock it every day. My clothes are usually BLACK and my jewelry, shoes or other accessories GOLD. So what in my past has led me to love this combo, where is it in my future...

Light.

I love the quality of light right before sunset. It's so magical. I caught my friend Amber in it.

Sylvia.

I seem to be very fond of Sylvia Plath and I have enjoyed reading her poetry for awhile. I enjoy her darkness, cleverness and her way with words. I like that I have to check the dictionary occasionally because she was fond of the thesaurus at times. After finishing The Bell Jar the other day, I found myself exploring her life more and became interested in her two children with Ted Hughes. I discovered that her daughter Frieda Hughes is still alive, while her son committed suicide at age 47.
Being the child of a parent who committed suicide, I always wonder if I will face the same fate(as if I have no choice!). Like somehow it is in my blood, a future I cannot escape. Either way-Sylvia Plath has inspired me and I have begun to write poetry again and even the beginning of a story. I also watch the film Sylvia again and became inspired by certain shots, which led to some screenshot grabs. FUN.

In 2003, Frieda Hughes publically protested the BBC’s decision to go forward with a film about Sylvia Plath and Ted Hughes. She claimed the film, Sylvia, would be a voyeuristic re-telling of Plath’s suicide and voiced her objections to what she felt would be a glorification of her mother’s death in a poem entitled “My Mother”, published in the Tatler in February of the same year:
... They are killing her again.
She said she did it One year in every ten, But they do it annually, or weekly, Some even do it daily,
...
Now they want to make a film For anyone lacking the ability To imagine the body, head in the oven, Orphaning children.
... They want to use her poetry
As stitching and sutures To give it credibility, They think I should love it – Having her back again, they think I should give them my mother’s words To fill the mouth of their monster, Their Sylvia Suicide Doll
